Dangerous Metrics
ABOUT
A Brief, Awkward Previous Life

This site did not always look like this. Once upon a time, it was a very earnest attempt at an IT and telecom consulting website. Clean language. Sensible descriptions. Phrases like “solutions,” “expertise,” and “engagements” were used with a straight face.

To be clear, the company is real. Dangerous Metrics LLC exists. I have done consulting work under it. Actual work, for actual people, solving actual problems. That part was not the issue.

The issue was pretending that decades of systems experience, pattern recognition, and problem solving could be accurately represented by a landing page, a services list, and a contact form that silently waited for someone to ask the right question.

It turns out I am not particularly interested in selling myself as a product. I do not enjoy positioning. I do not enjoy polishing language until it says nothing. And I am deeply suspicious of any consulting site that claims to have a methodology before seeing the mess.

So that version of the site was retired. Not out of failure, but out of honesty. The work still happens when it needs to. It just does not need a brochure pretending this is a tidy process.

This section exists as a reminder, sometimes the most accurate consulting pitch is simply showing how you think when no one is watching.

What This Place Is Now

This site is what happens when a thirty year telecom veteran finally stops pretending every idea needs permission, a roadmap, or a meeting invite. There was no strategic plan. There was a keyboard, a pile of data, and the sudden realization that no one was going to stop me.

I have spent most of my career making networks behave. Rural networks. Messy networks. Networks built from duct tape, vendor promises, and sheer willpower. I have stared at packet captures, SIP traces, optical levels, SS7 diagrams, and logs that no human was meant to read. I have fixed things at 3 AM that never should have broken at 3 PM.

This site is not a product. It is not a portfolio. It is not a blog in the traditional sense. It is a dumping ground for curiosity, experiments, observations, and the occasional moment where a system reveals something interesting if you look at it sideways long enough.

Some days this looks like metrics. Real ones. Traffic patterns, system behavior, logs turned into shapes you can reason about. Other days it looks like AI-generated images from the early days, back when the models were confident, wrong, and accidentally profound. Sometimes it is a half-built visualization that exists purely because I wanted to see if it could.

There is no theme enforcement here. The only rule is that it has to be honest. Honest data. Honest weirdness. Honest attempts to understand how complex systems behave when no one is trying to sell you a dashboard.

If you are looking for polished conclusions, you may be disappointed. If you are interested in how a long-time systems person thinks when the guard rails come off, you are in the right place. This is thinking out loud with better tooling.

Somewhere along the way, this also became a quiet rebellion against wasted data. Logs that get thrown away. Metrics no one graphs. Patterns no one notices because they do not fit neatly into a quarterly report. Those tend to end up here.

This is not production. This is not safe. This is what happens after enough years of knowing exactly how things work.
